SRINAGAR: Reiterating that he is still the president of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and will continue to be so, Dr Farooq Abdullah Tuesday alleged that despite lodging complaint against the miscreants who broke the locks of the office of JKCA, the police did not lodge first information report (FIR) saying that they have to consult their seniors.
Police did not lodge an FIR. A police officer told me that they have to consult his seniors before lodging an FIR, Abdullah told reporters during a press briefing in Srinagar.
He said the court had stayed Monday’s JKCA pro-ceedings, adding that he was sure “the so-called election (of Monday) will not stand judicial scrutiny”.
Describing the JKCA meeting held here on Monday that ousted him as “illegal and a criminal trespass”, he told the media: “I am the president of the JKCA and continue to be so.” Abdullah distributed copies of a criminal com-plaint filed by him on Monday.
It said that some people, including Mehboob Iqbal, Muhammad Iqbal Shah, Javid Kitab, Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, Manzoor Wazir ransacked the JKCA office at So-nawar after breaking its locks.
“They trespassed and illegally removed some docu-ments pertaining to the JKCA of which the elected office bearers are the legal custodians,” the complaint said.
Pertinently, the JKCA on Monday held elections in which 42 of the 64 clubs of the state took part. State Sports Minister Imran Raza Ansari was elected the new president replacing Abdullah. Magistrate Amarjit Singh Langeh stayed the proceedings of the JKCA executive till July 31, the next date of hearing fixed for the suit filed by Abdullah.
