SRINAGAR: State-run operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) telecommunication services were badly affected on Tuesday after its Chandigarh based telecom centre developed a snag. The services were also hit for few hours on the day of Eid-ul-Fitar and on Tuesday again the subscribers were irked as neither the internet nor the mobile services of the Nigam functioned. The employees at BSNL offices at Exchange Road and Suliman Complex Dalgate were seen sulking throughout the day. The subscribers who had arrived at the head office to pay their monthly bills were asked to return as the system in the office was not functioning. There is no network and we are sitting idle. The Chandi-garh based main centre has developed some technical problems and engineers are on job to restore the con-nectivity, a BSNL official told CNS.
The frequent disruption of BSNL services in Kashmir Valley has become a common phenomena. This has added to the woes of subscribers. The failure has added to the banking network in valley also as State Bank of India and other nationalized banks are unable to operate in Valley without proper networking system. The frequent failure of networking needs to be given a thought by the authorities in the Department for future as it has created a question mark on the efficiency of State run Telecom-munication Company, said an employee of the Nigam wishing not to be named.
