JAMMU: Prime Minister Nerendra Modi who wasin Jammu on a day long visit Friday,contrary to expecta-tions, did not announce any developmental package for Jammu and Kashmir. However, the state govern-ment here maintained that the announcement will be made in the last week of July.
Modi who arrived Jammu around 11 am on Friday to commemorate the birth centenary of late leader Girdha-ri Lal Dogra. Speculation was rife that Modi will announce the mega developmental package of 70,000 Crore during his Jammu visit.
However, sources said the announcement will be made in the last week of July. The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syeed wants that the package should be announced by PM in Srinagar. The Prime Minister has agreed the same and it is expected that the PM will announce the package in Srinagar in the last week of July, well placed sources said.
The function was held at Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University.
The PM was accompanied by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely and MoS in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh.
The function was attended by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syeed, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, Governor N.N Vohra, Dr Karn Sing besides others.
Earlier Modi arrived Jammu amid tight security arrangements. Tight security arrangements were made during Prime Ministers Jammu visit. The venue was put under siege while troops including state police and para-military forces were deployed around the venue.
