Jammu: Scores of truck drivers from Kashmir Wednesday staged a massive protest against authorities after the Excise Officials sealed their trucks cattle for Valley at Lakhanpore Toll Post in Kathaua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to CNS, a driver Muhammad Iqbal said that on the pretext of over loading authorities stopped all but 91 cattle laden trucks at Lakhanpore Toll Post on Tuesday night. The sheep and goat laden trucks bound for Kashmir Valley were coming from different parts of India including Amritsar, Jaipure, Sikkar, Ambala. It is for the first time, we have been stopped here on the pretext of overloading while the fact is that there is no overloading, he said.
The drivers who protested against the officials alleged that some vested interest corrupt officers present at the Toll Post have been harassing the drivers to extract bribe from them.
When contacted, officials at the Toll Post said that the trucks have been stopped for violating the rules. The truck drivers were found transporting cattle in extra numbers, he said.
