The last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan is marked worldwide as Quds Day after the historical message of Late Spiritual Leader and the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (R.A). The International Quds Day is an annual event that is commemorated to express solidarity with the struggling people of Palestine and to oppose Israels illegal control of Jerusalem. This day is observed in the Arab and Muslim world to condemn the illegitimate occupation of Palestinian territories by the Zionists and the violence of their regime. The participation of each and every Muslim in the International Quds day is indicative of the opposition of Muslims to the machination of worlds arrogant powers and their support for the oppressed worldwide and those who struggle for the establishment of freedom and justice seeking Islamic ideas. To Muslims, Bait-ul-Muqaddas is the first Qibla(direction of Prayer) and third holy city of Muslims after Mecca and Madina.
Mass demonstrations, protests and rallies are held on this day to boost up the spirits of the Palestinians to continue to struggle for the liberation of Bait-ul-Muqaddas. The presence of the millions of people in protests make the world realize that Muslims can never forget Palestine and their efforts will bring an end to the years of brutality in the occupied regions of Palestine. They also criticize the western powers who are always engaged in defending and sanctioning this blood-thirsty regime by raising revolutionary slogans. In other words the Palestinian problem is not limited to the occupation of just land, but rather it is the symbolic confrontation of world arrogant powers with the Muslim world.
A large number of people across the world assure their support for resisting Palestinians who have been victimized by the unjust rule of the Zionist powers for six decades. Five million Palestinian refugees have been driven out of their homeland. Many women, children and youth were martyred or captured in the previous years of suppression.
In Iran, India and Pakistan people come out on the roads and chant slogans against the Zionist and United States as its Major Supporter. They claim that the only solution to the Palestinian issue is referendum through which Palestinians would be able to determine their own destiny. In the inaugural address of Ayatullah-al-Uzma, Syed Ali Khamenei, the present spiritual leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the fourth International Quds Conference in 2009, he said:
Our proposal is a solution which is in total agreement with democracy and can form a common logical basis. That proposal is that all those who have a legitimate stake in the territory of Palestine including Muslims, Christians and Jews should choose their own system of government in a general referendum. The western world should know that non-acceptance of this solution will imply an absence of commitment to democracy, which it always claims to support. The failure to pass this test will further expose its double standards.
In this Quds Day speech in 2007, the Former Iranian President, Dr. Mahmud Ahmadinejad, also laid stress on the need of a Free referendum which will provide a way for the Palestinians to assert the supremacy of their opinions. He said that the West is seeking to create discord and conflict in the Middle East region and its purpose is to save the Zionists. These hegemonistic powers established the Zionist regime in order to consolidate their dominance of the region and take over the reins of popular and revolutionary uprisings. We should oppose them because they want to target one country through another country in the region.
This anti-Zionist day of protest is very significant for the Muslim world because it is a reflection of the actual essence of Unity which strengthens the claims of the Palestinian people. Talking to IRNA, Professor Baseer Ahmed, former Pro-Vice chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi said, The International Quds Day is an indication that the issue of Bait-ul-Muqaddas is not only a case of the Palestinian people but is a cause of Muslims all over the world. The stance taken by the Muslims specially Iranians since the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979 shows that the Palestinians are not alone in their fight against the Zionist regime and the Bait-ul-Muqaddas, in not so distant future, would be handed over to its true owners.
The world wide marches and speeches seem to criticize the world politicians and governments who show complete alienation and remain indifferent to the bloodshed and long genocide in Ghaza. The Quds Day invites all muslims especially muslim women to join hands to express disapproval of the Zionist behavior and also to display their support for Palestinian Nation. If the entire muslim Ummah sticks to this issue in vigilant manner, no power can withstand them.
Today, the International Quds Day is more important than in the past, as waves of Islamic awakening are sweeping over the Middle East. All Muslims of the world are hopeful that in the wave of regional uprisings and the collapse of regional dictators Bait-ul-Moqaddas will soon be liberated from the occupation of Zionist and Palestinian refugees can return to their motherland.
Hence, it is the duty of all Muslims worldwide to commemorate this great day, which today marks the global drive to confront all oppressors.
