Police foils march, EJAC decries official apathy
Srinagar: Police Thursday foiled the protest march of local body employees and detained scores of them.
They were protesting against the government decision of abolishing the two municipal committees at Tangmarg and Pahalgam.
Protestors led by EJAC president Abdul Qayoom Wani assembled at Press Enclave here under the banner of Urban Local Bodies Employees United Forum. They raised pro-justice slogans.
The protesters threatened to intensify their struggle in case the government did not revoke the order.
Wani said that JCC would not hesitate in resorting to agitation in case the government did not revoke its order.
“Scores of employees are working in the two municipal committees and these people have turned jobless as the abolition order was passed, he said.
Police detained scores of protestors including Wani as they tried to march towards busy residency road and lodged them into Kothibagh police station.
