Srinagar: A 53-year-old shepherd was killed in a blast in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Maqsood Ahmad, a shepherd from Rajouri found an explosive device while grazing his cattle in the mountainous Drass area of Kargil district morning, officials told Srinagar based news gathering agency Global News Service. While Ahmad was fiddling with the device, it went off with a bang leaving his seriously wounded.
He was immediately shifted to the nearby hospital by some locals for treatment. However, the doctors there declared him brought dead, officials said.
Meanwhile, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) concerned rushed to the area to investigate the matter and collect samples of the device for examination, the officials said, adding ” It is suspected the explosive device dates back to the Kargil war of 1999,” (GNS)
