Srinagar: Hundreds of people joined the funeral prayers of the mother of senior resistance leaders Shakeel, Showkat and Shariq Bakhshi on Monday.
Namaz-i-Jinazah was offered at Gousia Park Bemina and those present included senior leaders Yasin Malik and Shabir Shah.
Mrs Bakhshi passed away after a prolonged illness at around 4 AM on Monday at her present Bemina residence.
Her three sons Shakeel, Showkat and Shariq have been on the fore front of the pro-independence movement for decades.
While Shakeel Bakhshi is associated with Islamic Students League, Showkat is part of JKLF. Her third son Shariq died fighting Indian troops in Pirbagh area of Srinagar in 1997.
Meanwhile, both the factions of Hurriyat and JKLF have conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family particularly Shakeel Bakshi and Showkat Bakshi.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement said that the contributions of Bakshi family in the freedom struggle are exemplary. He stated that when Shakeel Bakshi was arrested repeatedly for his pro-freedom political activities, his mother always exhibited courage and patience to face the difficult situations.
Mirwaiz has prayed for the departed soul and asked bereaved family members to be patient in these testing times.
JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik while paying rich tributes to the deceased said that mothers are always loving and caring and they remain at the back of their children. He said that during freedom struggle mothers sacrificed more than anybody else and the mother we are paying tributes today sacrificed his three sons Sharik Ahmad Bakhshi, ISL chief Shakeel Ahmad Bakhshi and JKLF leader Showkat Ahmad Bakshi for the sacred freedom struggle of Jammu Kashmir.
Not only this, her husband Ghulam Muhammad Bakhshi, also actively worked for the resistance movement and had to tolerate the hardships of jail and interrogation centers, he said.
Expressing his condolence and sympathy with the bereaved family and Ghulam Mohammad Bakshi on the death of his wife, Syed Ali Geelani prayed for the peace to the departed soul. He said that the Bakshi family has offered tremendous sacrifices in the field of freedom struggle of Kashmir.
He said that the deceased has a big role in those sacrifices and she had faced countless difficulties during her life. Due to the house detention of Geelani Sahab, he could not visit the Bakshi family but on his directions many delegations of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and Hurriyat conference visited Bemina where they expressed their condolence with the bereaved family, a Hurriyat spokesman said in a statement.
National Front chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan has condoled the senior resistance leaders, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and Shakeel Ahmad Bakhshi on the sad demise of their mother. Nayeem Ahmad Khan leading a party delegation participated in the Nimaz-e-Jinazah of the deceased lady and prayed for her eternal peace. He said that the deceased lady was the mother of three freedom loving sons one among whom -Shariq Bakhshi- achieved martyrdom in early nineties and other two are exhibiting steadfastness in the ongoing resistance movement, a party spokesman said in a statement issued to GNS. He praised the Bakhshi family of Batamaloo for its contribution in the ongoing freedom struggle.
