SRINAGAR: Minister for Agriculture Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today visited Model Floriculture Centre, Nunar Ganderbal and took stock of the present situation of the farm. He also enquired about the facilities available in the Centre and its functioning.
The Minister was apprised of various activities and new initiatives like Lavender Park, medicinal park, cumin (zeera), lilium and tulip cultivations. He was told that the activities have already been started for the multiplication of various medicinal plants and for further upgradation a comprehensive project stands forwarded to National Medicinal Plant Board, Government of India. It was given out that essential oil crops like Bulgarian rose and lavender has also been started for the multiplication and also distributed among the educated un-employed youth who are interesting for cultivation of the same.
Interacting with the staff present in the Centre, the Minister stressed for to maintain the farm upto the expectations of the flower growers. Continuous efforts are afoot to boost the Floriculture sector in the State adding that the need is to adopt the latest technology so that the production will increase and create the employment avenues Mr. Hanjura told.
Director Agriculture Kashmir and other officers of Agriculture and its allied wings accompanied the Minister during his visit.
