NEW DELHI: Union Home Secretary LC Goyal Tuesday chaired a high level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in the capital.
Sources said that meeting took stock of the arrangements made for smooth conduct of Amaranth yatra besides overall security situation in the State, including surge in the civilian killings in Sopore.
Official sources said that J&K Home Secretary RK Goyal and DGP K Rajendra attended the meeting called by the Union Home Secretary at North Block New Delhi.
Sources said that the Union Home Secretary also stressed upon better coordination among agencies and the civil administration. To foil any attempt by troublemakers to disrupt peaceful atmosphere, close liaison should be maintained at every level and the officers supervising different components should be briefed accordingly, sources quoting him said.
They said the meeting also reviewed the overall security situation especially the spurt in killings at Sopore, attacks on mobile phone towers. Sources also said that the State Home Secretary, the DGP and the other Intelligence officers briefed the Union Home Secretary on steps taken to maintain law and order situation in the State.
Unified Command Meet Today
Srinagar: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syeed will chair a meeting of Unified Command here on Wednesday to review the security situation in the state.
A senior government official said the meeting will be held at SKICC at 12 noon. The meeting will be attended by top brass of all the security agencies, including the DGP, Corps Commanders and senior officials of various intelligence and security agencies including the BSF, CRPF, CID and Army, he said.
The official said the agenda of the meeting is to review the present security scenario in all regions of the state. The heads of security agencies will be briefing the chief minister about the ground situation vis-à-vis security and human rights in the state. The CM will be getting the feedback from the field officers about all issues related to security, he added.
However sources said that the meeting has come up in the wake of killings of civilians in Sopore. All security related issues including Sopore attacks and strategy to check them will be discussed in the meeting, they said and added top Army commanders are likely to brief the Chief Minister about their perception of security situation in the State.
Northern Command chief Lt Gen DS Hooda, GOC Nagrota based 16 Corps Lt Gen KH Singh, GOC Srinagar based 15 Corps Lt Gen Subrata Saha and GOC 14 Corps Lt Gen BS Negi would attend the meeting among others, sources said.
Sources said that the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, and the two Divisional Commissioners and other senior officers would also join the meeting.
Sources also said the Unified Headquarters will review all aspects of the situation including situation on LoC and IB, hinterland of the State, Shri Amarnath ji yatra arrangements, law and order situation, summer strategy and Sopore killings.
This is third meeting of the Unified Headquarters in five and half months of this year. The first UHQ meeting was chaired by Governor on January 24 while the Chief Minister has presided over his first UHQ meeting on March 12 in Jammu.
