SRINAGAR: The Core Group on Saturday met here to discuss and review the security situation in Kashmir Valley, a defence spokesperson said in a statement this evening.
The meeting was co-chaired by Lt Gen Subrata Saha, GOC 15 Chinar Corps and Security Advisor, and Director General of Police DGP K Rajendra.
During the deliberations on the overall security situation, the plans to ensure a robust counter infiltration grid along the LC and counter terrorist grid in the hinterland were discussed, the spokesman said.
He said the special emphasis was given to ensure extensive security measures for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. Various facets of the Yatra including administrative, communication, medical etc. were discussed and coordinated. All security agencies expressed their satisfaction on their preparedness for the period and particularly the added security afforded by the infusion of cutting-edge technology into the surveillance infrastructure. Core Group was also given an update on the intelligence, he said.
Expressing happiness on the synchronization of actions amongst various intelligence agencies, Lt Gen Subrata Saha lauded the coordination amongst different security agencies, the defence spokesman said.
In his address to the gathering, he also emphasized on maintaining a high level of preparedness to deal with natural disasters and highlighted the need for all stake holders to be concerned about environmental issues, he said, adding: Echoing similar sentiments, K Rajendra Kumar spoke about the deployment of additional CAPF and their orientation for which all agencies were working together.
The DGP assured the gathering on the effectiveness of law and order control measures in place.
The Core Group also discussed the Sopore situation where a lesser-known outfit, Lashkar-e-Islam, recently carried out multiple attacks on telecommunication installations and employees. Besides, the Core group also discussed the killing of civilians including Hurriyat activists in Sopore.
The defence spokesman further said: Taking stock of the results of the counter infiltration and counter terrorist operations thus far in 2015, it was brought out that a total of 29 terrorists were eliminated in operations along the Line of Control and in the hinterland.
In conclusion, all agencies conveyed their reassurance to the people of Kashmir that their security will be well looked after so that they can carry on with their daily lives without fear. A similar assurance was given to the tourists who are visiting the beautiful valley of Kashmir, the spokesman added.
Besides, Lt General Saha and DGP Kumar, Chief of Staff Chinar Corps, GOC Vajra Division, GOC Dagger Division, GOC Victor Force, GOC Kilo Force, GOC 31 Sub Area, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, IG CRPF, IGP CID, IGP Kashmir Zone, DIG BSF, Joint Director IB and Assistant Commissioner Special Bureau were also present in the meet.
