SRINAGAR: The field executives of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) conducted surprise inspection of different markets of Srinagar and booked a number of erring traders for selling packaged goods in violation of labeling requirements.
At Mehjoor Nagar, the inspector seized a large quantity of imported confectionery items (made in Thailand) for the packs were not carrying the Maximum Retail Price and the trade name of importer with full address.
Earlier, the field executives of LMD booked several traders for selling imported goods like foot wear, juices, mobile accessories, toys, food items etc. for not carrying all the mandatory declarations such as date of manufacture/packing, net quantity, price, address, consumer Cell No. etc.
The LMD has urged the traders not to offer for sale any imported products/goods which do not carry all the mandatory declarations including trade name of importer as well as complete address. The consumer has a right to know about all the mandatory declarations so as to enable him/her to take rational decision while making any purchase of products/goods in packaged form, LMD said.
