SRINAGAR: Following threats and attacks on mobile phone towers and land owners, the police in City have beefed up security while frisking was conducted throughout the day here.
Witnesses said that the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personal were deployed at several junctions as well as entry and exit points of the City.
Besides, they said, the cops were stopping two wheelers including bikers at multiple places including in Old City parts. They were questioning them, checking papers as well as identity cards, witnesses said, adding: those two-wheelers who were without papers were being confiscated by cops.
The cops were seen conducting frisking at Lal Chowk, Barzulla, Zaina Kadal and Parimpora.
Meanwhile, a top police official said that the searches are being conducted in order to keep check on anti-peace elements.
Meanwhile, a youth was allegedly thrashed by a policeman during frisking near Budshah Chowk in the City Centre, witnesses said.
They said that a youth, whose identity could not be identified, was driving bike when he was asked to stop by cops deployed there for frisking. He could not stop the bike at the exact place as he was in speed and stopped his bike few meters ahead. This infuriated a cop and he hit him with a baton on his ear which led to bleeding, they said.
In the meanwhile, the people around gathered at the spot and started anti-police sloganeering after which cops chased them away, witnesses said.
