PATTAN: Official records reveal that a Block Development Officer has drawn Rs 19 lakhs as extra salary during his posting in Singhpora Pattan area of Baramulla district.
Soon after the revelations came to fore the said officer was transferred to Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district.
The facts surfaced after the Treasury Officer sought the Service Book record from the accused BDO. Every month I used to receive a bill from the said BDO and he used to draw Rs 71,480 as monthly salary. This continued for years. The BDO refused to show me his service book record when I sought the same from him. When I wrote a letter to DC Baramulla asking him to probe the matter, it came to fore that the said officer was drawing extra salary of Rs 21,480 every month, thus swindling the public money, Treasury Officer Pattan Muhammad Ahsan said.
Treasury Officer alleged that ever since the fraud came to fore, he receives threatening phone calls from the sympathizers on daily basis while the irony is that the department has not initiated any action against the officers who is responsible for draining the state ex-chequer.
Meanwhile, ADC Baramulla in a letter vide number 5336/39 has directed the accused BDO to present his service book record and handover the extra money that he has drawn illegally from the Treasury Office Pattan.
Despite repeated attempts Director Rural Development Kashmir could not be contacted.
When contacted, Block Development Officer told CNS that it was a pay fixation error and nothing else. I have already rectified it and as a responsible officer I can never cheat the department, he said. (CNS)
