SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik was today taken into preventive custody along with five other front leaders in Pulwama district.
Front was to start Public Contact programme from today in Jammu and Kashmir, seeking support for freedom movement, launched by separatists in the state.
A spokesman for the front said Mr Malik who left Srinagar along with other front leaders for Rajpora today to start the programme, were stopped at Pulwama.
Later Malik, Shakeel Ahmad Bakshi, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Bashir Ahmad, Javid Ahmad Bhat and vehicle driver were arrested. He said it was a peaceful programme and police have also seized all materials from the vehicle.
The spokesman said arrest of Mr Malik to prevent him from launching the programme has exposed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) slogan of battle of ideas raised by the party before the elections.
