PULWAMA: Driver of a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunday evening fled along with the weapon of latter’s security guard in south Kashmirs Pulwama district, officials said here today.
They said the local BJP leader Gulzar Ahmad Nengroo, who is a resident of Prichoo in the district, had hired a Scorpio of a person namely Shabir Ahmad Sofi and Sofi himself used to drive the vehicle for Nengroo.
However last evening at around 8:30, Sofi snatched the rifle from BJP leaders PSO and fled from the scene, officials said. The PSO of Nengroo has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad, who is a resident of Kupwara.
Confirming the incident, the Superintendent of Police Pulwama, Tejindar Singh, said that a case under FIR number 129/2015 under sections 379 RPC 7/25 30P Act, 3PU audience act has been registered and searches for the absconding driver is on.
SP denied that the BJP leader has been detained on suspicion. The SP however said that Mr Nengroois currently at a police station. The step has been taken for his safety. We dont want that the absconder should attack him with rifle he snatched, the SP added.
The driver, who fled with the rifle, is in his twenties and is a resident of Pulwama district.
