Srinagar: The Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq Sunday alleged that every tactic was being adopted by the state to change the Muslim character of Kashmir and efforts efforts were on to divide Kashmir on religious and sectarian lines.
Addressing a seminar in connection with Hafata-e-Shohada, Mirwaiz said following a well hatched conspiracy the direction of the movement was being diverted. He said Kashmiris were being deliberately tangled in a relatively smaller issues like PRCs, return of migrant Pandits, and Article 370 in order to divert their attention from main Kashmir dispute.
He said even though we cant overlook such issues, we should not forget our main goal i.e. the resolution of Kashmir issue.
Cautioning people about the sectraian discords and religious hatreds being promoted by certain vested interests, Mirwaiz said that not only leaders, but every Kashmiris has to bear the responsibility towards getting the dream of right to self determination realized.
He said there cannot be a predefined calendar for the success of the movement, adding, if we are committed to our thinking and ideology, then the dawn of freedom is not far away.
Others who also spoke at the seminar included Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Mehmood-ur-Rashid, Parvez Imroz, Agha Mujtaba Al Moosvi and Altaf Hussain.
Prof Bhat said Kashmiris sacrificed their life and property for the movement while their leadership also attained martyrdom for the cause.
He said such sacrifices were the real treasure of freedom struggle. As such, he said that people should protect their sacrifices, adding, it was possible only under the umbrella of Hurriyat since it represented the real aspirations and emotions of Kashmiri people.
Speaking on the occasion, senior columnist, Mehmood-Ur-Rashid said that the fast emerging political developments in South Asia would have direct impact on Kashmir. Knowing the weakness and strengths of Kashmiri nation, Rashid said we should strategize our goals and move forward.
Noted Human rights activist, Parvez Imroze while presenting the figures and facts of human rights violations committed by troops in Kashmir, said that since past 25 years that no investigations were started to probe the massacres and killing of Kashmiris by state, neither any of the perpetrators have been punished or even FIRs were lodged.
Senior journalist, Zahirudin, said that confrontational politics will detract us from the main goal. He said the movement which has been entrusted upon us by our martyrs will be taken to its logical conclusion. He said Kashmiris would never forget their martyrs, adding, those people who do it never succeed to reach their goals.
Mirwaiz in his presidential address said that Kashmiris as a nation should realize their individual and collective responsibilities towards freedom struggle. He said when we talk of social, political and religious issues, we should also fulfil our responsibilities practically to get out rights.
Mirwaiz said till the mission of martyrs of Kashmir is not completed, the Hurriyat (M) would continue with its struggle.
