Srinagar, May 15 (KNS): As a part of its Civic Action Programme, Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing a cycle race in Srinagar. The national level event would witness a large participation of youth in Pedal for Kashmir cycle race on May 31.
This was disclosed by Inspector General of Police (Armed), Shafkat Ali Watali, who is also organizing Secretary of the event, at a meeting of police officers held at Armed Police Headquarters here today. The meeting was convened to discuss various arrangements with regard to conduct the national event in a befitting manner.
Giving the details, Watali said that the event is being organized under the chairmanship of ADGP (Armed), S.M. Sahai and the cycle race is expected to be participated by a large number of professional cyclists from all over the country including Jammu and Kashmir, representing various educational institutions, NGOs, national level sports bodies and clubs. Registration for participation has been started and the interested cyclists have been asked to register themselves with commandants of Armed/IRP Battalions located in different districts. Special registration counter has also been established at Police Golf Course Boulevard, he added.
The meeting decided that the cycle race would start from Police Golf Course, Boulevard Road at 6.30 a.m. with three categories viz senior, junior (boys and girls) under 19 years and sub-junior (boys and girls) under 12 years. The event will have a free entry and the participants would have to compete in these three categories. All categories having participation of willing cyclists of all age groups will follow the routes from Police Golf Course Boulevard to different destinations and back to the venue. It was also decided that cash prizes worth Rs.5.5 lacs and certificate of participation would be distributed among the winners in all three categories on the conclusion of the event at a prize distribution ceremony.
The meeting discussed various arrangements for the event including transport, security, boarding and lodging, police bandbust and medical facilities for successful conduct of the event. It was decided that participants from outside the valley and other parts of the country, who are reaching here before two days of the event, would be provided accommodation at Armed Police Complex Zewan.
Among others, the meeting was attended by IGP (Telecom), . MA Ganai, SSP Traffic, . Hasseb-u-Rehman, SO to ADGP (Armed), . Javaid Iqbal Mattoo, Addl. SP (Security), . MS Khan, SO to DIG (CKR), . Manoj Koul, SSP Telecom, . Manzoor Ahmed, Commandants of Valley based Armed/IRP Bns. representatives of J&K Cycling Association and other police officers.
