Srinagar, May 15 (KNS): Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has strongly condemned assault by a miscreant on Dr Muzaffar at SDH Nagam.
Doctor Muzaffar was discharging his duties professionally and competently in his hospital. A female complaining of vertigo and dizziness was brought to the hospital at around 5 pm on May 14 by her husband and Dr Muzaffar was stitching a trauma patient at that time. The husband in an arrogant tone asked Doctor Muzaffar to examine the patient and Dr Muzaffar politely kept the trauma half stitched and examined the female patient. The patient was having a BP of 190/100 and after thorough examination, the treatment was prescribed including Inj Lasix, a spokesman of the DAK said in a statement to KNS.
Injection Lasix was given and within a span of few moments the male attendant accompanying the patient again in an arrogant tone asked the doctor to check the blood pressure. Dr Muzaffar calmly said that it takes time for the treatment and she should wait before the blood pressure is checked again. Dr Muzaffar resumed the stitching of the trauma patient and all of a sudden the attendant slapped the doctor, shouted and abused at the whole staff, he claimed.
The DAK appealed all the doctors to unite and rise irrespective of the status and personnel egos for facilitating the formation of the law against violence. The ordinance is in place in nineteen states of India and it has been seen that the violence in these states was dramatically down after the implementation of the law. As per the ordinance, any person found assaulting the medical staff and damaging the hospital is to be arrested without any bail and the said person has to pay three times the cost of the damaged property. The matter was also taken up with the Health Minister recently and he had assured us of starting the work on promulgation of an ordinance. We also appeal the Govt to end VIP racism in our state, he added.
