Jammu: In a significant order, Justice Bansi Lal Butt of Jammu Kashmir High Court Thursday directed DGP and ADGP security to restore the security cover of Shakeela Begum, younger sister of former Chief Minister J&K and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with advocate Irfan Muhammad Khan, Just BL Butt observed that petitioner Shakeela Begum is a protected person who was enjoying security cover in the shape of residential guard and PSOs since 1996 and according to the petitioner on April 20, 2015, the two PSOs guarding her life were withdrawn without any justifiable cause, thereby exposing her before the elements inimical to her peaceful life.
Advocate Ahmed submitted that the petitioner is younger sister of Azad and is residing in village Soti Dudwar in Tehsil Gandoh Bhalessa in Doda district, which is the native place of former Chief Minister and the petitioner is serving as a government teacher in the local Primary School. Advocate Ahmed further submitted that Shakeela Begum was earlier attacked by the militants in 2005 and an FIR was registered at Police Station Gandoh.
He further submitted that since the petitioner is the real sister of Azad as such she is facing threat to her life and there was no reason for withdrawing her security.
After considering the submissions of Advocate Ahmed, Just BL Butt in the open court directed Director General of Police J&K and ADGP Security to restore the security cover of the petitioner and also directed that a compliance report be also filed before the next date of hearing. (CNS)
