APHC stages protest in Srinagar
Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference Thursday held a protest at Srinagars Press Colony against the ill-treatment of political prisoners and demanded their release from Jammu and Kashmir and Indian jails.
The protest was led by senior separatist leader Javid Ahmed Mir.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesters expressed anguish over the worsening condition of Kashmiri prisoners in the jails of Jammu Kashmir and India. Terming the continuous torture, ill behavior and atrocities against these inmates as a clear violation of Geneva convention, Mir said that the hardships faced by Kashmiri prisoners especially those who are jailed for life is very heart wrenching .
Mir alleged that inmates in jails are asked to pay bribe for medical care and lives of many inmates who languish in these jails are at stake because of the ill behavior of jail authorities.
Kashmiri prisoners have been immensely suffering at the hands of authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and India, he said and demanded the release of these prisoners.
The protesters condemned the attitude of Indian authorities and appealed to the Amnesty International and International Red Cross to take note of this situation and act to safeguard the lives of these Kashmiri prisoners.
