Jammu: An army soldier and a civilian were killed when a vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Rajouri district, official sources said on Thursday.
A Tata sumo was on its way towards Peer Gali from Surankote in the district. Reportedly, there were five people in the sumo and when they reached near Chatta Pani along Mughal Road, the sumo skidded off the road and fell into the deep gorge, the sources said.
As the news about the incident spread, the police, locals and local army unit rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation. After several hours, the bodies of two people identified as Riyaz Ahmad and Ghulam Mohiuddin were retrieved.
Riyaz is a soldier in 13 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) of army. The deceased hails from Gursai village of district Poonch while another deceased hails from Thanna Mandi.
