BARAMULLA: large number of youth turned out during a recruitment rally conducted by army at Baramulla in north Kashmir, once a bastion of militants.
The recruitment rally witnessed an attendance of 2500 youth for the 250 posts from various Tehsils of the district including Boniyar, Kreeri, Rafiabad and Tangmarg despite huge downpour throughout the day.
The screening of candidates included 1.6km run, pull-ups and 9 feet ditch followed by medical examination. Many youth were found physically as well as medically fit and the results would be declared after the completion of recruitment process of all the districts, the statement read.
A defence spokesman said army has in last one year employed around 1500 youth in various fields like armed forces, corporate sectors through vocational skills development programmes.
In the ongoing efforts to generate employment in Kashmir two TA Battalions have been sanctioned to be raised in Kashmir. To fulfill this Requirement recruitment rallies were organised by Army at Panzgaum, Anantnag and Baramula under the aegis of Chinar Corps to cater for 753 vacancies and the similar process will continue in future, he said. Strength of approximately 2700 youths from Kupwara, 2250 from Baramula and 2500 youths from Anantnag district took part in the event. The youth started to come for rally early in the morning and despite of heavy rains they came in large numbers. If the weather would have been clear, more number of youths would have joined the rally. All the aspiring candidates were tested for physical standards, medical fitness and documentation. The event was well appreciated and received by the youth who also need a transformation by taking lucrative employment in Army.
Lt Gen Subrata Saha, GOC, Chinar Corps, while assuring the youth said, Providing opportunities to youth in terms of employment is a collaborative social responsibility. Army is playing its part and will continue to do so.
Youth Dies During Rally
JAMMU: A 26-year-old youth Monday died after he collapsed during an Army recruitment rally in Doda district, police said.
Yogeshwar Singh, collapsed while undergoing screening test at a recruitment rally of Territorial Army (TA), they said.
He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Prima facie it seems that the youth may have suffered a heart attack, police said, adding the reason behind the death is being investigated.
The army is holding recruitment rallies in six districts of Jammu and Kashmir to fill 1305 vacancies in the Territorial Army, a defense spokesman said here today.
The rallies are being held in Poonch, Doda, Reasi, Anantnag, Baramulla and Kupwara and a large number of aspirants today turned up for them, Udhampur based defense spokesman Col S D Goswami said.
The rallies that began from today will fill up 1305 vacancies for the entire Jammu and Kashmir, without Kargil and Leh district, he said.
He said the rallies have been planned by the Army in consultation with civil administration.
Army has established assistance booths in the rally sites. There have been reports that many youths from different districts turned up at the sites, though their districts have been earmarked for different dates, he said.
He said recruitment in Territorial Army is being held under the aegis of northern command with vacancies of soldier general duty, clerks, store keeper technical, surveyor and tradesmen.
More than 5000 aspirants turned up at each rally site during the morning hours, he said.
There were also reports of stone pelting at a rally by youths who were rejected during the recruitment process.
There have also been reports that few of the candidates who were rejected during the recruitment process have resorted to stone pelting which resulted in some problems at the sites, he said.
5 hurt in clashes
Jammu: Five people including a policeman were injured in clashes during an Army recruitment rally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district today.
The chaos broke out during the Territorial Army recruitment rally at Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) in Talwara belt of Reasi district as aspirants rushed towards the entrance in large numbers while those rejected started pushing each other on the way out, police said.
Police resorted to mild cane charge as the crowd clashed with them in which five persons including a cop suffered minor injuries, they said, adding that the situation was brought under control and the screening of aspirants is underway.
The rally organised for recruitment to the posts of Soldier General Duty, Clerks, Store Keeper Technical (SKT), Surveyor, Tradesmen (Chef Community, Masalchi, Steward, Housekeeper, Hair Dresser, Washerman and Drivers) categories would end on May 9.
