JAIPUR: BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday criticised the opposition, mainly the Congress party, for describing the Modi-government as pro-corporate despite it contributing about Rs. 2 lakh crore to the government treasury.
Addressing a BJP workers’ meet here, Shah said: “Congress again and again calls us a pro-corporate government, may I remind them that coal, 2G and CWG scam took place when their government was in power. It was your government who distributed coal blocks to corporate houses like Jindal and Darda.”
“On the contrary we adopted transparency in allocating coal blocks and deposited around Rs.2 lakh crore of money in the government treasury. Is our government pro- corporate or was your government?”
Shah also alleged that under the Congress-rule, the land of poor farmers in Rajasthan and Haryana was given to members of the families of Congress leaders.
“Our government at the Centre is going to complete one year in May and the Modi government has undertaken great work during this period. The opposition has not been able to say anything against us on corruption,” he said.
Highlighting the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Adarsh Gram Yojana and Make in India campaign, Shah said the BJP government is a government for the poor in the true sense.
He said that during the UPA regime, inflation was at a record level. “In 10 years of their rule petrol and diesel prices were not lowered even once. Under Narendra Modi’s government, prices of petrol and diesel are being lowered almost every month.”
Mentioning that when the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government took over “the growth rate was 4 percent and in five years of their rule the growth rate touched 8 percent” Shah said, “When Congress government came in power they again brought it down to 4 percent. Now under our government the GDP is again at 7 percent.”
He also said that it was for the first time that norms of compensation for damaged crops had been modified to benefit farmers.
Also speaking on the occasion, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed her grief at the death of Rajasthan farmer Gajendra Singh who committed suicide during an AAP rally in Delhi on Wednesday.
“The father of Gajendra has written a letter to me and sought a CBI inquiry into the incident. We are for an impartial enquiry into the tragic incident,” Raje said, adding that whoever is responsible should be punished in this case.
“We will leave no stone unturned to get justice for the family,” Raje said.
After attending the rally, Shah along with Vasundhara Raje, visited the village of Gajendra Singh.
