Srinagar: Senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Mr Tariq Hameed Karra today visited various inundated areas of Eidgah constituency in district Srinagar to take stock of the situation there.
He was accompanied by Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control and Chief Engineer R&B Departments.
Karra called for immediate dewatering of the inundated areas including Chonchafaqeer and restoration of road links damaged by incessant rains.
He said high-speed dewatering pumps should be installed in the area immediately to prevent further loss to property and crops, besides providing rations and other essential supplies to the affected people.
He said the administration should gear up to take every possible measure to safeguard the life and property of the people. He also called for overhauling the drainage system in the City to prevent water-logging during rains.
The MP was informed by the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department, that a comprehensive flood protection plan has been submitted to the Government of India for funding from the World Bank.
Mr Karra said that being a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources, he would take up the matter regarding funding of flood protection plan for Kashmir with the concerned union ministry.
