Jammu-Director Department of Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing (DEERS) Suresh Chugh has informed that the department is carrying out Near Real Time Flood Inundation Mapping using satellite data from NRSC Hyderabad. NRSC has programmed RISAT-1 satellite data sets on 31st March 2015 for providing daily satellite imageries.
The satellite dataset will be analyzed and a state-level flood inundation map for part of Jammu & Kashmir will be prepared on daily basis. Since the images are being acquired during/immediate to the rainfall event, large extents of wet areas were also observed.
These satellite imageries which will be uploaded on the website of the Environment department i.e. jkdears.com. Further, one can visit flood page in Bhuvan portal (bhuvan-noeda.nrsc.gov.in/disaster/disaster/disaster.php) and NDEM portal for better visualization of flood extent in Jammu & Kashmir State with villages overlay.
The department will continue to keep a watch on the inundation situation and update the information as and when it is acquired from NRSC.
Director DEERS has also informed that the department is also under taking complete Flood Zonation Mapping of the Jhelum basin in collaboration with the NRSC, Hyderabad.
