Srinagar: In the wake of incessant rains in Kashmir, Hurriyat (M) chairman and head of Dar-ul-Khair Mirwaiz Umar Farooq convened an emergency meeting of Dar-ul-Khair members, workers and activists to take stock of the flood like situation emerging in Kashmir.
During the meeting, Mirwaiz instructed Dar-ul-Khair members, workers, volunteers and youth to be ready to meet any eventuality in the wake of high water levels being witnessed in the rivers and streams of Kashmir. The participants in the meeting stated that due to heavy rain once again September 2014 like flood situation seems to be emerging in Kashmir due to which people are worried and suffering from fear psychosis, a spokesperson of the Hurriyat (M) said in a statement to KNS.
Mirwaiz instructed activists and workers to individually visit the flood affected areas and increase their contacts with the people so that they alert us at the times of any emergency or as and when need arises.
The Hurriyat (M) chairman appealed the aid agencies, volunteers and NGOs not to wait for the government institutions for help and instead exhibit self-help initiatives to tackle with the flood situation. Mirwaiz also appealed to people to maintain calm and show unity as they demonstrated during the September floods, and be ready to help each other so that together we can make it through these difficult times.
Terming the inundation of Hamdania colony Bemina due to floods waters as unfortunate, Mirwaiz asked the authorities to take preemptive and concrete steps to prevent such occurrences elsewhere.
Even last year flood victims are still waiting for relief and rehabilitation. The government should take lessons from the past mistakes and take steps in advance to deal with any situation arising out of the flood situation currently prevailing in the valley, he said.
