FSL ‘confirms’ Kupwara woman’s death due to poisoning

SRINAGAR:  Kupwara woman, whose death at in-laws house triggered protests in September last year, has died due to poisoning, according to the Forensic Laboratory report received by the police, official sources said Tuesday.     

Waheeda Akhter(25) wife of Ashfaq Ahmad Khan had died at her in-laws in Warnow, Lolab under mysterious circumstances on September 07, 2014.

The death had triggered protests by her parental relatives who had demanded investigations into the incident.

Following the death, police conducted postmortem and samples were sent for forensic analysis to ascertain the reasons for death.

Official sources Tuesday confirmed that police has received the FSL report few days ago which confirmed the cause of death of the woman due to poisoning.

However, sources said, police has not yet converted section 306 which was registered by police on the day of her mysterious death into 302 RPC.

When contacted Senior Superintendent Kupwara, Rahul Malik told GNS that he will look into the matter.

Concerned Station House Officer of police station Kuligam confirmed receiving of the FSL.

Asked for reasons to delay converting FIR into the section 302 RPC, he said, “We are waiting for report by a local doctor.”

Meanwhile, family of Waheeda demanded stern action against those involved in the “murder.”

“Action should be such that it should serve as a deterrent to others. Our daughters should be live honorable life, be it at their parental home or in-laws,” said the family members. (GNS)
