POONCH: An 18-year old girl was allegedly raped by a Sarpanch in border district of Poonch, reports said on Tuesday.
“The girl, a class 12 student, had gone out in the night, when the Sarpanch of her village, identified as Tariq Manzoor (33), kidnapped and raped her in a nearby field last evening,” a police officer said.
He said the accused later threatened the girl of dire consequences if she told about the incident to her parents.
“The girl narrated the incident to her parents and they filed a police complaint at Police Station Mandi,” he said.
He said the medical examination of the girl confirmed that she was raped.
Police added the accused was still at large and several police teams have been formed to nab him.
