SRINAGAR: At least 16 persons are feared dead after several houses collapsed in Central Kashmirs Budgam district early Monday.
A police official said that three houses collapsed following overnight rains in Laiden village of Chadoora Tehsil.
There are reports that 12 members of a family of Ghulam Nabi Hajam are among the 16 persons who are feared dead, he said.
Rescue operation has been launched by police, army and locals of the adjacent areas, he said.
Incessant rains from the last couple of days have led to the land sinking at several places, besides flood situation in the Valley.
Hundreds of families have already fled towards safer places in wake of the flood alert sounded by authorities after Jhelum level crossed danger mark at Sangam in Anantnag district and Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar.
