Police on alert, questions family, neighbours
SRINAGAR: The personal security guard of a senior minister fled with two service rifles on Saturday, prompting police to launch a massive manhunt.
The security guard belongs to village Karimabad in Pulwama district and was appointed the minister’s guard 12 days ago.
Police said that “Constable Naseer Ahmad Pandit posted as personal security guard with the Minister for Public Works, Syed Altaf Bukhari at his Sheikh Bagh residence, has escaped with two AK-47 rifles from his duty.
IGP Kashmir, SJM Gilani said a colleague of Naseer had gone to offer prayers and had left his rifle with Naseer. Naseer fled with his as well as his colleague’s rifle.
As per initial reports, three youth, all from his native village, were waiting for him outside the residence of the minister. We have launched a manhunt to trace these four persons, including the cop, a police official said and identified the three absconding associates of cop as Bilal Ahmed Bhat, Tariq Ahmed Pandit and Afaq Ahmed Bhat, all residents of Karimabad Pulwama.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, Syed Javid Mujtaba Geelani while confirming the incident said that the cop is from security wing and some 15 to 20 days before he was deployed to guard the residence of Public Works Minister.
There is no reason to panic and no need to sound an alert. We have registered a case (FIR 20/2015 Under Section 380,409) and investigations are on. We have constituted a special team to trace him and hopefully he will be nabbed, he said.
Naseer was recruited into police in 2007 as per reports.
A high level meeting of officers was convened to discuss the issue threadbare and formularize strategy to nab the cop.
Meanwhile, a special police team rushed to the Karimabad Pulwamma to question the family members of the absconding cop. A police official informed that after questioning his family members, neighbours and relatives, they came to know a lot about the recent activities of the fugitive cop. He will be traced anyhow, he said.
Pertinently, last year in August, an SPO Muhammad Shafi Dar a resident of Nowpora Sopore had gone missing from SOG camp Sopore along with his service rifle and had later joined militant outfit LeT.
Police forms SIT to locate missing ASI
Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to search for the missing police official from Ganderbal district. A police official said that the SIT headed by a senior sub Inspector has been constituted to launch searches for ASI Mohammad Shafi Parray resident of Wussan, Kangan who went missing from his home on 26th evening.
A large scale search operation by three teams of police and a team from SDRF conducting search for the missing person in the nearby forests, villages and river Sindh, he said.
Special teams have also been deputed to adjoining villages to get the information about the missing police official by all possible means. Search operations will continue till the whereabouts of the missing are not known, the official said.
