SRINAGAR: A day after Indias highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, was conferred on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Huriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Saturday alleged BJP has deviated from the roadmap laid out by the veteran BJP leader.
Mirwaiz said in an interview that It is ironical and shocking that the BJP has conferred Bharat Ratna on Vajpayee. His vision and policies have been out-rightly ignored and undermined by the present BJP (leadership). Quite ironical that the BJP is honoring Atal Bihari Vajpayee in words but dishonoring him in deeds by trashing his vision and approach on the issue of Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Mirwaiz led Hurriyat Conference had held several rounds of talks with Vajpayee led NDA government and had advised BJP to revisit Vajpayees policy on Jammu and Kashmir for creating conducive atmosphere for fresh dialogue.
Mirwaiz in the recent past had told reporters that it is not fair to wait for the last gun to fall silent before moving ahead on the Jammu and Kashmir. The violence level has dropped and you need to initiate a political dialogue without waiting for the last gun to fall silent for resolving Jammu and Kashmir issue, he said.
Hurriyat (M) chairman said India and Pakistan should start formal talks at the Prime Ministerial level and assured full support of his amalgam in finding an everlasting solution to Jammu and Kashmir issue. We welcome the recent Foreign Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan and want formal resumption of the dialogue between them for peace and stability in the region.
We also desire that the talks be taken forward to the political level especially at the PM level and want to assure both the governments that Hurriyat will extend its full support in finding an everlasting solution to the Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz said
On the formation of PDP-BJP Government in the State, Mirwaiz said: Jammu and Kashmir is not an administrative issue and cannot be solved with the formation of a Government. It is a political issue and needs political solution.KNS
