2014 Floods
SRINAGAR: A division bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice U.U. Lalit Friday directed the Advocate-General of J&K Government to provide status report to the court regarding the distribution of relief to the flood victims in J&K, reports said.
Supreme Court was hearing a writ petition filed by J&K National Panthers Party and others for the distribution of equitable relief in cash and kind to the victims of floods and rain in Jammu and Kashmir in September, 2014.
Supreme Court granted four weeks to the Jammu and Kashmir government to file its status report.
300 People Died in Sept Floods: Govt
SRINAGAR: Government on Friday said that 300 people died and 25 suffered injuries in floods that battered the state last September.
Responding a question in Legislative Council, Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Basharat Bukhari said that due to floods of 2014 in the state 300 people died and 25 persons were injured.
He further said that apart from damage caused to 26,1361 structures, farm sector of 3.27 lakh hectares of agricultural land and 3.96 lakh hectares of horticulture land also suffered damage.
According to the government data 6,910 kms of road length, 559 bridges, 3,063 PHE schemes, 6,423 irrigation works and schemes, 4,202 sub-stations, 11,671 kms of electric conductors, besides 6,466 other buildings suffered damages due to floods.
