Locals accuse contractor of using sub-standard material
Tral: Incessant rain waters Wednesday washed away a newly-constructed bridge in Chandrigam Tral in South Kashmirs Pulwama district, sparking massive protest in the area.
The bridge that had been washed away during September floods by constructed a local contractor who according to locals in league with the officials of R&B swindled a large chunk of money meant for the said bridge.
The bridge connects Tral with the villages like Chandrigam, Noorpora, Dadsara, Nowpor, Aaligund and other hamlets. Due to the damage, many villages remained cut off while traffic was also suspended.
Residents according to CNS alleged that sub-standard material was used in the bridge. Not only sub-standard material, but the construction took place in an haphazard and unplanned manner. The bride was not given too much height as a result the speedy waters in the nallah damaged it completely, they said.
The protesters appealed Chief Engineer R&B to look into the matter.
