JAMMU: Minister for R&B, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari replying to a question by Haji Anayat Ali in the Legislative Council said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has taken up construction of Zojila tunnel as well as Z-Morh tunnel on National Highway-1D in order to have all weather connectivity for Leh region in the State.
The Minister said that the construction of the tunnel was entrusted to BRO who invited Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the project in which four bidders were found qualified, besides, an amount of Rs. 20.86 crore was also deposited by BRO with the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal for acquisition of revenue and forest land.
He further informed that in order to expedite the construction of this tunnel, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to take up the work directly under Built-operate-Transfer (BOT) basis. Accordingly the Ministry has asked BRO to transfer all related documents. He said that invitation of the RFP is presently under progress for the award. He said that after its award, implementation of the work will start.
