Srinagar: The state Congress on Monday made a surprising revelation saying the party would not oppose if mortal remains of the parliament attack convict Afzal Guru are returned to valley from Tihar jail.
The issue of return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru has emerged as humanitarian issue across the country and everyone is raising concern over it. Congress party has a stand that if GOI approves the plea, we will not oppose any such move, newly appointed state Congress chief G.A. Mir told KNS.
Tightlipped over whether his party would support the resolution being moved by Independent legislator Engineer Rashid, he said, The party could discuss its strategy in near future after going through the c0ntents of the resolution. So far, I have not read the resolution, we will take a collective decision only after the party meet. So far we can say that the return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru is humanitarian issue.
Pitching for the screening of cases against the prisoners in Jammu and Kashmir languishing in different jails since years, Mir said that the government must initiate the scrutiny of the cases so that ones against whom no serious charges are registered could be freed.
