BJP Says Strain With PDP Over
JAMMU: Asserting that the strain in relations with its coalition partner PDP over the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam, was over, BJP Wednesday claimed that the PDP has acknowledged it took the decision in “haste” and could have been avoided.
The party however said that the damage, which has been done is required to be undone by directing preventive custody of Alam under PSA.
“The damage which has been done to the smooth functioning of the coalition government has been duly acknowledged by PDP. It has been acknowledged that the decision to release Masarat Alam was taken in haste which could have been avoided and consultation with BJP, as equal partner of coalition government, should have been done,” chief spokesperson of BJP’s state unit, Sunil Sethi told reporters here.
Sethi said the development, which has taken place since the formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir and which has caused the concern and distress for BJP has been strongly conveyed to PDP.
Sethi further said that the damage, which has been done is required to be undone by directing preventive custody of Alam under PSA in view of fresh circumstances which rose after his release.
He said that the first cabinet meet of the coalition government also took place on Wednesday, which will help in restoring the confidence between the coalition partners for better coordination to provide good governance to the public, for which primarily the coalition was formed.
“The BJP strongly impresses upon the coalition partner to honour the CMP in letter and spirit,” he said.
The BJP spokesperson also appealed the people not to get misled by the misinformation campaign launched by opposition parties against BJP and underlined that BJP never compromised on its principles and ideology and shall continue to follow the same.
Art 370 A Temporary Provision: GOI
NEW DELHI: The Constitution has no mention of special status to Jammu and Kashmir and Article 370 provides for temporary provisions with respect to it, government today said while making it clear that the present dispensation cannot tamper with it because of lack of numbers.
Making this statement in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home H P Chaudhary said in a written reply that in view of this, the question of scrapping the special status of Jammu and Kashmir does not arise.
Replying to supplementaries, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said dilution or abrogation of the Article needs amendment to the Constitution and we (NDA government) do not have numbers in the House.
He said government will take into consideration the historical perspective if any decision is taken with regard to Article 370.
He was responding a suggestion by Karan Singh, senior Congress leader from the state, that the government should take extreme caution if it wants to have a re-look at the Article 370.
When asked about the profits and loss of the Article to the state and country as a whole, Rijiju said he would not like to discuss it.
