Govt directs schools to refund deposited fee to parents
Srinagar: The students of class 12th and 10th and their parents Wednesday again alleged that the valleys first missionary schools Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson Girls School have resorted to loot and plunder and are finding ways and means to extract money from the hapless parents.
The parents of the students said that authorities of these schools fleece students and threatening their children to pay from November 2014 to March 2015 or they wont be allowed to sit in exams.
The school authorities are forcing our children to pay the fee for winter break period, when government postponed the exams.
They told them they will not get admission in the school for 11th class if they dont pay the fee, the parents of class 10th student said.
The officials of HR department threatened me to pay the fee without arguing with us or my son will not get the admission for class 11th, one of the parents said. The parents said these two schools have already collected the fee for last years September and October months of 12th class.
After filing a PIL, the High Court had directed schools not to ask students to pay fee for last year September and October months, when a massive flood hit the state.
A group of class 12th students alleged that the school authorities were indulging in cheap practices to grab money from the students by not issuing there Roll number slips and checking their practical note books.
I went to the school to get my practical note book checked. To my surprise, the teacher did not check my copy and said go and deposit the fee first otherwise your copy will not be checked, Insha, a class 12th student of Mallinson said.
When I said I have paid the fee already in lump sum they shouted at me and said get out of the room, she said
The parents said that the recent floods had affected the mental health of the students. Now these influential schools have been resorting to cheap practices, the parents said.
President Private Schools Association G N Var said this is not the first time these missionary schools are resorting to such malicious practice.
Instead of providing quality education they have always used new methods of looting the poor students, he alleged.
Var said, After the floods these missionary schools have got a huge amount of money from different Christian NGOs across the world and now they want flood relief from poor students.
Var accused the higher authorities for shielding the influential schools and never acting against them for their wrong-doings.
Var threatened that Private Schools Association will come to the streets if action was not taken by the higher authorities against these influential schools.
When contacted Director School Education, Showkat Ahmed Beigh said We have issued the orders to these schools not to receive the fee for these months and those parents who have deposited the fee should be refunded back he said. (CNS)
