SRINAGAR: Despite rainfall and warning of landslides on Jammu Srinagar National highway the authorities allowed traffic from Srinagar to Jammu on Monday.
The Inspector General of Police Traffic Muneer Ahmad Khan said that traffic will be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow (Tuesday).
IGP Traffic said, The traffic on Jammu Srinagar National highway plies normally and around 2500 vehicles crossed the Jawhar tunnel till Monday evening, he said and added that as per schedule the traffic will allow from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow.
He however said that traffic will be allowed after assessing weather and road conditions. The passengers must confirm the status of the highway from the TC unit Jammu before leaving their station.
He also advised passengers/drivers in particular not to start their journey from Jammu to Srinagar without confirming the road/weather status from Traffic Control Rooms at Ramban (9419993745, 9596798726), Jammu (2459048, 9419147732) and Srinagar (0194-24500022), 2485396).
This advisory has been issued on the basis of weather reports which predict moderate to heavy rainfall especially in Banihal to Jawahar Tunnel sector and Jawahar Tunnel to Qazigund sector from today, besides heavy to moderate rainfall in Ramban area, which may trigger landslides on NHW between Ramban-Ramsoo sectors, he added.
