Srinagar: Sajad Gani Lone, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir People Conference and MLA elect expressed his deep concern over the delay of release of funds to the students studying in various colleges and universities outside the state under Prime Ministers Special Scholarship Scheme.
In a statement Lone said, The scheme was aimed to help the students of Jammu and Kashmir to pursue higher studies outside the state and embark on a path of excellence. The scheme was launched in the year 2011-2012 assured to provide 5000 scholarships every year for different academic courses of general degree, engineering and Medical studies. The scheme contained annual payment of tuition fees, hostel fees, cost of books and other incidental charges to students of J&K.
However, Lone added, The scholarships under the scheme have not been released to all the students.
Lone further added, The students belong to marginalized families who cannot afford to pay the fee on their own. This has put the career of thousands of students in a state of ambiguity despite being admitted in colleges after due consent to release funds under PMSSS. “
Chairman, JKPC had earlier written to Smt. Smiriti Irani, Minister for Human Resources Development vide no. JKPC/001/GOI/14 dated: 26-12-1014 and sought her intervention in the matter. said a spokesman of the party.
Lone urged the HRD Minister to expedite the process of release of funds to these students to avoid inconvenience and ensure their studies may not suffer under any circumstances.
