KUPWARA: Police on Monday registered a murder case on the orders of a local court in connection with alleged custodial killing of a man in Kupwara district of north Kashmir last week.
The court of Munsiff Kupwara, Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, directed the police to file murder case regarding the death of 32-year-old Nazir Ahmad Mughal on Thursday last.
The court also recorded the statements of seven witnesses including the wife of the deceased, Naseema Begium. The family had moved an application in the court, seeking registration of the murder case.
The court ordered police to include sections 302, 364, 342, 109, 120b RPC in the case filed under FIR number 41/2015 under sections 223, 224.
The court also directed concerned SP to conduct investigations into the case.
Meanwhile, the SP Kupwara, Rahul Malik, confirmed that the murder case has been filed against the arrested cops on the directions of court.
Meanwhile, the family and relatives of the deceased hailed the court orders by saying that it is their first win.
The custodial death of Mughal, son of Abdul Rehman, adopted son of Bahadur Khan of Gujjar Pati, Zirhama, Kupwara sparked violent protests in Kupwara town and its adjoining areas.
People alleged that he died in police custody. On Friday last, authorities imposed restrictions in the entire Kupwara town, two days after relentless protest demonstrations amid spontaneous shutdown against the killing. Later after three days, police arrested three cops in connection with the death. (GNS)
