JAMMU: The Election Commission today issued notification for the elections to 11 vacant seats of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council. The elections to 11 seats of the Legislative Council would be held on March 2 from 9 am to 4 pm, an official spokesman said.
Nomination forms will be issued from February 12 to 18. The last date of submission of the papers is February 18, he said.
Scrutiny of the affidavits will be done on February 19 and February 21 would be the last date for withdrawing candidatures.
Out of the 11 seats, the candidates for five seats must be the residents of Jammu province. For four seats, the candidates must be from Kashmir and for the seats of Ladakh and Kargil district, the candidates must belong to these two districts.
While eight vacancies arose due to retirement of sitting members, three other seats fell vacant after the MLCs were elected to the state assembly.
