A good lawyer could have saved the life of my husband
SOPORE: On Monday when Kashmir Valley observed a complete shutdown to mark the second death anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guroo, his widow, Tabasum Guroo said that a good lawyer could have saved the life of her husband.
Except Shabir Ahmed Shah, not a single Hurriyat leader came forward to arrange a good lawyer for my husband. Shah tried a lot to arrange a reputed lawyer for Afzal, but the Indian lawyers refused to plead the case of my husband and those who showed willingness were threatened by others, Tabasum Guroo said adding that lack of coordination among Hurriyat leadership became the main cause of his husbands death.
I have great regard for Syed Ali Geelani as he is our leader but unfortunately he showed no interest in arranging a good lawyer for my husband. Both Afzal and SAR Geealni were Kashmiris, but Geelani Sahab used his good offices and engaged a reputed lawyer for SAR Geelani, ignoring Afzal, she said but added that she has no grudge against SAS Geelani and SAR Geelani.
Taking a dig on Hurriyat leaders for not taking concrete measures to bring back the mortal remains of Afzal back from Tihar Jail to his native place, Tabasum Guroo said that separatist leaders only remember her husband on his martyrdom anniversary. Hurriyat leaders are making no efforts to persuade India to handover the mortal remains of Afzal to his family. These leaders failed to show a united face and I am sorry to say that these leaders let us down at every stage, she said.
Reacting to the apology statement of Congress legislators, Tabasum Guroo said that this party is shedding crocodile tears to appease people of Kashmir for their political benefits. The Congress partys recent statement in favour of Afzal did not surprise me or my family as we all know the Indian politicians can go to any extent to safeguard the interests of India in Kashmir, she said adding that people of Kashmir are wise enough to evaluate the statement made by Congress party.
While thanking people of Kashmir for their support and affection Tabasum said that she expects nothing form pro-India politicians.
Tabasum said that she is aware of this fact that India is not interested in returning the mortal remains of her husband but she wishes that his belongings that includes the Holy Quran, his spectacles, a radio set and books to be given back to her. (CNS)
