Srinagar: With J&Ks four Rajya Sabha seats going to polls on Saturday, a combination of abstentions from the NC and Congress flock along with wavering Independent candidates is set to put Ghulam Nabi Azad in trouble and if sources are to be believed Azad is set to lose the seat.
Insiders reveal that Azad is unlikely to get more than 27 votes while PDP and BJP will get 29 and 28 votes respectively. Sources informed that Azads discomfiture is also arising from the realization that some of legislators are not keen by heart to support him.
Much relief to the Azad, two independent candidates have already declared to vote for him, however, sources said that Engineer Rashid may not cast his vote in his favour. Reliable sources informed that Engineer Rashid had asked both Azad and Omar Abdullah to explain their position on the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guroo before the day of voting for Rajya Sabha. Sources said that since Rashid did not get any such explanation, he is unlikely to vote for Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Azad is the joint candidate of Congress-National Conference and is contesting under the notification no 3. Congress has its 12 legislators and NC 15. He shall, according to officials, require 29 votes to win the seat. The BJP and PDP are fighting on two seats separately.
