Pulwama: Police Friday seized timber worth lakhs of rupees in Rajpora area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir, an official said.
The official said that a police party led by Station House Officer (SHO) Sajad Ahmad seized the timber near Stadium Colony this morning.
He said though police managed to seize the timber and horses but smugglers managed to flee after pelting stones on police personal.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case in this regard under section 379 Forest Act and started further investigations.
According to GNS, several locals accused forest employees of being hand-in-glove with the timber smugglers. They alleged that the smugglers bribe employees and in return, they allow them to loot green gold without any check.
Assuring action, the Range Officer Pulwama, Nawab Ahmad, told GNS that he will look probe the matter. If anyone is found involved, we will take action, he said. (GNS)
