Srinagar: To commemorate efforts towards growth and well being of people residing in and around Machhal Sector, the frontier Kupwara Division of Chinar Corps conceptualized and dedicated Neeraj Sainik Institute named after the Nk Neeraj Kumar of 57 Rashtriya Rifles who was awarded Ashok Chakra on 26 January 2015 for his pivotal role in elimination of four militants at Gurdhaji Village (Kupwara District) on 24 August 2014, a defence statement said.
Maj Gen Paramjit Singh, GOC 28 Infantry Division for co-jointly inaugurated the Neeraj Sainik Institute at Kalarush, alongwith the next of kin of the Martyrs, thus provided a platform to further the Awaam-Jawaan togetherness in times to come. Maj Gen Paramjit Singh also felicitated the next of kin of the brave soldier Nk Neeraj Kumar on this occasion. It was the gallant act of Nk Neeraj Kumar, AC, which was pivotal in elimination of four hard core terrorists on 24 Aug 2014 at Gurdhaji Village. His supreme sacrifice on line of duty was honored by the nation by awarding him Ashok Chakra (Posthumous), highest Gallantry Award during peace time, on this Republic Day – 26 Jan 2015, it said.
Neeraj Sainik Institute was conceived by Brigadier Ranjan Mahajan Commander of Machhal Brigade in response to the requests from the soldiers and Awaam. The institute furnished with multifarious state of the art facilities such as health club, a range of indoor games like Carom Board, Chess, Table Tennis and Internet facilities was envisioned to act as a platform for development of individual capabilities. Neeraj Sainik Institute has a Cafeteria which produces even the most demanding and lips making gourmets. An ATM is being established next to Neeraj Sainik institute for use by Jawans and Awam. The facilities will be jointly utilized by soldiers and the locals of the area, particularly the youth and will motivate them to join the Armed Forces. This will also go a long way in helping soldiers unwind and rebound on duty with re-infused zest and zeal, it added.
