Srinagar: A shutdown was observed in central Kashmirs Pakharpora town of Budgam district after a party of Special Operation Group (SOG) allegedly thrashed students in the area.
Residents said that at around 10 am, a party of SOG appeared in the area and asked for identity cards of more than a dozen tuition going students. They showed their cards to them but SOG personal started thrashing them. They kicked them and accused them of pelting stones on forces after the killing of Shakeel Wani, who was a local militant, they alleged.
As the news about the thrashing of students spread, the shopkeepers of the area downed their shutters and suspended commercial activities, locals said. The traffic was also suspended in the area.
The president of Traders Federation, Pakharpora, Bashir Ahmad said that the SOG thrashed innocent students. We demand action against the accused personal, he said. Bashir added that the shutdown would continue in the area till authorities take action.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) Budgam, Muhammad Irshad said that he will look into the matter.
