SRINAGAR: A day after killing of two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in a gunbattle at Syedpora village of Sopore, the government forces conducted a search operation in the area after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.
Official sources said the government forces including Special Operation Group (SOG), armys 22 Rashtriya Rifles and 179 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off Mir Mohalla in Syedpora on Monday morning and started house-to-house searches.
The forces had input about the presence of a group of militants in the area and following the input, the search operation was conducted, sources said.
The search operation, they said, continued till 2:30 pm in the afternoon.
Later, it was called-off, the sources said.
The government forces, since last week, have stepped up anti-militancy operations in the valley particularly in Sopore and its adjoining areas.
Last week, a militant was killed in Chankhan locality of the area while two militants were also killed Sunday. The forces also arrested a LeT commander from the house of a pro-India leader, who is also a Sarpanch, in Choora. (GNS)
