Poonch: A major infiltration bid was foiled by army along Lone of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector of Poonch on Thursday late night, official sources said.
They told GNS that a group of militants tried to infiltrate at around 10 pm at Turkundi forest along LoC. However, when troopers of 6 Rajputna Rifles noticed some movement, they opened fire towards the infiltrators triggering clash between two sides, sources said.
The firing between the two sides continued for about two hours, the sources said.
Following the intrusion bid, the army placed whole area under cordon for whole night and conducted a search operation in the morning. However, nothing was found, they said.
The fresh infiltration bid came a day after army warned of attacks by militants ahead of US president Barack Obamas scheduled visit to India.
