SRINAGAR: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry has condemned the local assessing authorities for defying Central Board of Direct Taxes by refusing to entertain cases of traders hit by 2014 floods.
Reports emanating from the affected tax prayers suggest that the local assessing authorities are not adhering to the directions of the Central Board of Direct Taxes while dispensing / assessing cases in the valley, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry said after a special meeting held here today.
KCC&I condemned such reported behavior, and resolved that all efforts would be taken to alleviate the sufferings of the business community.
The statement said that in the aftermaths of the September floods the President, KCC&I Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad had met Mr. Arun Jaitley the Minister for Finance regarding the difficulties being faced by the affected tax payers of the State.
Consequent to this meeting several remedial measurers were announced aimed at sensitizing the Income Tax Department to resolve grievances and difficulties faced by the Tax payers. Measures like extension of date of filing of returns, avoidance of framing of high assessments, compassionate appreciation of tax payers who were not in a position to produce books of accounts, records and other documents which were lost in the floods, were announced by the Finance Ministry through the Income Tax Department.
